Pierre Huard was the first and earliest person who had given all information on the life and work of the author on the Bulletin de l’École Française d’Extrême-Orient (Bulletin of the Far-Eastern French School) as we have known. Later on, when he collaborated with Maurice Durand to write the book entitled “Knowledge of Vietnam” (2) Pierre Huard had mentioned in his bibliographical part Henri Oger’s work entitled: “General Introduction to the Study of the Technique of the Annamese People”

Pierre Huard là người sớm thông tin về cuộc đời tác giả, tác phẩm trên tạp chí Viễn Đông Bác Cổ như đã biết. Sau này khi cùng hợp tác với Maurice Durand để viết quyển “Hiểu biết về Việt Nam” (2) trong phần thư mục Pierre Huard có nhắc tới Henri Oger qua quyển: “giới thiệu khái quát về nghiên cứu kĩ thuật người An Nam”.

Depuis qu’ils ont mis les pieds au Vietnam, les érudits français ont entrepris des recherches scientifiques vastement organisées , dotées de moyens adéquats , et ont bénéficié de l’aide du gouvernement colonial, mais surtout, sont inspirées par l’amour de l’exotisme , aussi ces érudits ont-ils fait des études profondes sur des aspects qui étaient si familiers aux lettrés vietnamiens qu’ils les ont laissés de côté ou ne songeaient pas à les étudier. Grâce aux documents laissés par les chercheurs français, les générations postérieures pourront compléter de façon objective la documentation que leurs aieux ont pu rassembler.

Is it true that, since they first set foot in Vietnam, the Occidental scientists had based themselves on scientific and well-organized research methods, especially when they had had all the means available, along with the assistance of the colonial administration, so they had, with their exotic viewpoint, gone deep into many different researching fields, which the vietnamese Confucian scholars, due to their being too familiar with such matters, hadn’t seen or omitted to work on? All such research documents left behind by them had greatly helped the posterior generations to complete objectively the funds of documents built and left behind by our vietnamese forefathers.

Từ khi đặt chân lên Việt Nam, có phải những học giả phương Tây đã dựa vào phương pháp nghiên cứu có khoa học, có tổ chức quy mô và nhất là có một phương tiện trong tay với cách nhìn “chuộng lạ” và được chính quyền thực dân giúp đỡ nên họ đã đi sâu nghiên cứu về nhiều mặt mà các nhà Nho Việt Nam vì quá quen thuộc nên chưa thấy hết hay bỏ qua không để tâm tra cứu. Những tư liệu nghiên cứu mà họ để lại ấy giúp cho thế hệ sau bổ sung một cách khách quan vào vốn tư liệu mà cha ông Việt Nam đã xây dựng nên.
